Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), now called Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is a critical and important part of Liberty Mutual Insurance and its brand. Reflecting the company’s new brand visually within D&I, reinforced the company’s commitment, partnership and progress to their D&I journey. This reflection further demonstrated the company’s commitment to becoming a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
The Ask:
To begin the exploration of rebranding Diversity & Inclusion. The current look and feel of D&I programming and training was based on the companies previous/retired corporate palette. Our business partner wanted to conduct a brand refresh of D&I using Liberty’s new visual and voice system.
Our Audience:
Liberty employees: We can assume they have familiarity of the existing look & feel (ERG weave icons, Guidelines for inclusion logo, red glasses, etc.). D&I team/trainers: They will have a vested interest given they launched the initial look, and we’ll need to include them into this process to create an evolved look. They believe there is equity in what’s been created thus far. ERG leadership: They co-created the current weave icons & have a lot of passion for their ERGs visual identity. We recommend including them in this process so they can remain connected & passionate about the work.

Reevaluated existing work and noticed pieces looked segmented. They did not hold well together. Proposed 3 concepts, plus ideas that push the new brand beyond its graphic system.
Concept 1 - reskinned old with new. Also made slight tweaks throughout making pieces look modern and now up to date.
Concept 2 - icons focused on people / the individual.
Concept 3 - pushed brand even further. Made icons more detailed and graphic.
Collaged world would include: ERGs; All initiatives - IA, Race Ethnicity and Collaboration, etc.; People - Employees, Customers, communities we serve, etc.; Liberty Mutual Buildings/Offices. Images could be conceptual or literal. As D&I grows and becomes international we can expand and build on this world even more.
Leading with yellow and using origami and paper cutouts we create iconic representation of our D&I initiatives/programs. Such visual could be animated in video, on our site, digital displays, screen saver, and more.
As part of D&I’s brand refresh, D&I’s Microsoft Sharepoint site was moved to Drupal. In this new platform the site got an immediate upgrade. The refreshed icon system was used in sections to differentiate each program from each other and through this project we were able to build on D&I’s initiatives even more.
In order to design a cohesive experience, I needed to see the big picture and how it related to each page. Through wireframing I was able to understand the flow of the site and see where adjustments needed to be made.
This simple and clean direction leveraged our approved icons and made them the heroes of each page.
In this direction the icons lay quietly in the background as the illustrations tell the full story. Was able to show all aspects of diversity through our illustrated characters and environments.
In this direction we use photography of our real employees. Making it more relatable to our audience (employees see themselves in these pictures). Icons are secondary.
In its 40th year, the Simmons Leadership Conference remained the nation’s premier one-day professional development event for women—a don’t-miss experience that motivated, educated, and empowered leaders at every stage of their careers. The conference included compelling presentations, panel discussions, signature dialogues, skill-building workshops, book-signings, and networking with around 3,400 attendees.
The theme of the 2019 conference, “Designing Success,” focused on the need for constant adaptation and reinvention in an increasingly fast-paced world. This was Liberty Mutual’s ninth year partnering with Simmons Boston Conference.
By continuing their partnership with Simmons, Liberty had an opportunity in Massachusetts to reinforce their commitment to diversity and inclusion and advancing/empowering women. Given the conference’s location near their Boston office, employees had the opportunity to easily access and attend the event also take advantage of women networking and professional development opportunities the conference had to offer.
Objective
To create an experience at Simmons Leadership Conference that strengthens our brand awareness and provides networking and professional development opportunities for Boston employees and surrounding areas and LM Women & Male Allies in Boston area.
Our Audience
• Attendees of the conferences (~3,400) • Liberty Mutual employees (~300: 250 general admission, 30 premium registrations, 20 VIP). Note: At ~300 tickets, we send more employees to this women’s conference than any other

CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion is the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace.
This commitment is driven by a realization that addressing diversity and inclusion is not a competitive issue, but a societal issue. Recognizing that change starts at the executive level, more than 1,600 CEOs of the world’s leading companies and business organizations, are leveraging their individual and collective voices to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
As part of Liberty Mutual’s participation in the CEO Action for Day of Understanding, D&I reached out to us to come up with a campaign promoting this day long (to be week long) stance on diversity - to be open to all people and possibilities and to help create a more inclusive environment at Liberty.
A big part of Diversity and Inclusion at Liberty is to consider multiple perspectives. This concept is explained through what D&I calls putting on a “D&I Lens” which is the lead message throughout the campaign.
Objective:
Have employees feel included in D&I, reinforce that D&I applies to their work and that they can act to create a more diverse and inclusive Liberty.
Audience:
All employees globally
Measurement:
• Employees are aware of the CEO’s commitment to D&I, CEO Action and our efforts to date • Employees take action by sharing • Number of clicks to myLiberty • Managers take action by sharing • Number of clicks to manager center

Fidelity Charitable is a 501(c)(3) public charity. They help donors maximize their generosity through their donor-advised fund, called the Giving Account. Established in 1991, they are the nation’s top grant-maker, distributing $7.3 billion to charities in 2019.
The Giving Account streamlines the process of strategic giving for a broad range of donors, allowing them to contribute many types of assets and plan their giving more systematically.
For this project I created and designed FC’s digital styleguide as well as support design of the site. This guide breaks down all the brand elements needed to maintaining the site.
As part of an effort to make a better workplace for all at Liberty, surveys are distributed quarterly asking employees about their experiences at the company.
The ask for this assignment was to create an interactive pdf that would be shared with mangers. This form would be used in meetings, also would live online as a resource.
